What is Shockwave?

Shockwave therapy uses high-energy acoustic waves, often referred to as shockwaves, which are delivered through a device to targeted areas of the body. When the shockwaves penetrate the tissue, they create mechanical pressure and shear forces. This action has several effects:
  • Increased Blood Flow: The waves stimulate blood circulation in the targeted area, which helps bring nutrients and oxygen to the injured tissue, accelerating the healing process.
  • Cellular Regeneration: The shockwaves stimulate cells to produce growth factors and collagen, which are essential for tissue repair and regeneration.
  • Pain Reduction: The therapy can help reduce pain by disrupting pain pathways and decreasing inflammation.

What Can It Help With?

Ankle: Achilles Tendonosis
Arm: Golfer’s Elbow
Arm: Tennis Elbow
Arthritis: Knee Arthritis
Back: Lower Back Pain
Back: Upper Back Pain
Neck Pain
Hand: Wrist Carpal Tunnel
Heel: Heel Spur

Hip: Greater Trochanteric Pain – Bursitis
Jaw: TMD
Knee: Jumpers Knee
Knee: ACL Recovery
Leg: Hamstring
Shoulder: Frozen Shoulder
Osgood: Schlatter Disease
Shoulder: Calcified Tendonitis

How Will Shock Wave Help Me?

The application of a Shock Wave to specific tissues of the body (i.e. Muscles, tendons, ligaments, even bone) has specific effects as follows: Firstly, there is actual destruction of tissue such as adhesions between muscle, tendon and ligament fibers. Bone spurs or calcific deposits in tendons, ligaments and even blood vessels begin to break apart and dissolve. This controlled tissue destruction leads to the second phase, which is a focused healing response as the body then begins to repair the treated area. This also creates the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) which improves the circulation to the treated tissue. This leads to the third effect which is reduction of pain and improved range of motion.

How Many Treatments Are Typically Needed To Achieve The Desired Result?

Most conditions will respond favorably after 4-6 treatments delivered at 4-7 day intervals between treatments.

Some conditions will respond after 1-3 treatments while others may require 6-12 sessions depending on severity and chronicity of the problem.

A clinical trial of 4-6 treatments will determine the severity of the condition and if further treatment will be of benefit.

What Are The Advantages Of SWT Over Other Forms Of Treatment?

Instead of treating orthopedic injuries by fighting our bodies response with anti-inflammatory drugs, cortisone injections and numbing our pain with prescription drugs that have nasty side effects, SWT is the science of helping our body heal itself.
